Continuing our series of reviews of movies and Tv shows during the lockdown period, we chose Mrs Serial Killer, Netflix’s new original film starring Jacqueling Fernandez and Manoj Bajpayee.

What’s it about?

Mrityunjoy Mukherjee (Manoj Bajpayee) is a popular gynecologist in a hill station in Uttarakhand, and he’s married to Shona (Jacqueline Fernandez). One day, Shona tells him that she’s pregnant and Mrityunjoy, who’s in another city, is elated hearing the news. By the time Mrityunjoy comes back, police inspector Imran (Mohit Raina) barges into Shona’s house and collects some samples to implicate Mrityunjoy as a serial killer. The rest of the story is about how Shona tries to prove that her husband isn’t a serial killer, and to get him out of jail, she herself becomes one.

What’s good?

Nothing! Not even Manoj Bajpayee’s acting. Not even the film’s story which might seem interesting in the beginning, but turns into a mess later on.

What’s bad?

For a film which boasts of some renowned names in Bollywood, Mrs Serial Killer is terrible and there’s nothing in the film which comes to its rescue. Jacqueline Fernandez, who plays the lead role, has a poorly written role and the actor’s less than average acting skills don’t help her either. Scene after scene, the film gives you plenty of more reasons to hate it without any guilt. Even Manoj Bajpayee is wasted in a terrible role and when he amuses himself towards the end, it doesn’t make any difference to the story. Every actor in the film goes overboard and makes you wonder why they agreed to do the film to begin with.

Final Word:

The film has been written and directed by Sirish Kunder, who has made Hindi films like Joker and Jaan-E-Mann in the past. While Mrs Serial Killer is meant to be an interesting take on the genre, blending comedy with mystery doesn’t work at all. In fact, every scene looks so poorly made, along with terrible acting, that it almost feels like a parody. There are films which are so bad that they are good and one could derive great joy by laughing at them, but Mrs Serial Killer is so bad that it makes you want to forget that you ever saw the film. Skip it.
