Patang is the latest Telugu youthful entertainer made mostly with new faces. Released as a Christmas special, the film hit the big screens recently and here is our review.
Story:
‘Mass’ Vishnu Krishna alias Whisky (Vamsi Pujit) and ‘Class’ Arun (Pranav Kaushik) have been close friends for 12 years after bonding over kite flying. Their friendship faces a test when Ishwarya (Preeti Pagadala) enters their lives. She grows closer to Arun, while Whisky too develops feelings for her. Differences arise, leading the friends to devise a plan to decide who should be with Ishwarya. What that plan is and how their relationship finally turns out forms the rest of the story.
Plus Points:
Despite being newcomers, the lead actors deliver confident performances. Vamsi Pujit stands out in the emotional portions before the interval, while Pranav Kaushik looks convincing and performs with ease. Preeti Pagadala delivers a decent performance as a confused young woman, representing today’s generation.
Though the runtime stretches to 2 hours and 40 minutes, the film mostly maintains a steady pace. The screenplay keeps things engaging, especially in the climax, where the mix of fun and tension works effectively.
SS Kanchi and Gautham Vasudev Menon appear in roles that suit them and perform capably. Singer SP Charan makes a special appearance that adds entertainment value.
Minus Points:
The film does not offer fresh or out-of-the-box content, as the storyline feels familiar. It is the execution and performances that make it watchable rather than the plot itself. Viewers expecting a strong emotional depth or a powerful narrative may feel underwhelmed.
While the first half moves smoothly, the second half slows down with a few dragged portions. Tighter editing could have improved the flow. The film also asks the audience to overlook logic at several points.
Technical Aspects:
Director Praneeth Prattipati handles the material decently and makes reasonable use of his cast and technicians, though stronger writing could have elevated the film further.
Jose Jimmy’s music blends well with the film’s mood and supports the narrative effectively. Shakthi Arvind’s cinematography is neat, while Chanakya Reddy Toorupu’s editing is adequate but could have been sharper. The production values are decent for a small-scale film.
Verdict:
On the whole, Patang is a timepass youthful entertainer backed by neat performances and light-hearted moments. While the story feels familiar, the treatment makes it a reasonably watchable fare. A stronger second half could have added more impact, but the film still works as a fun weekend watch.
