Interview : Nag Ashwin – You will see the future Prabhas in Kalki 2898 AD

The 27th Edition of Asia’s Largest Science and Technology Festival, Techfest 2023-2024, is happening currently at IIT Bombay. Prabhas starrer sci-fi action thriller Kalki 2898 AD is a part of this Gala. At this fest, Nag Ashwin revealed many interesting things related to the film.

 

How different is Kalki 2898 AD compared to other science fiction films?

There haven’t been many sic-fi films in our country. A few time travel movies were made. Kalki 2898 AD is a different film. It is set in a unique world. In Hollywood futuristic films we have seen how the cities will look like. The audience will see the futuristic Indian cities in Kalki. We have been working on Kalki for the past five years. We have designed everything from scratch. I believe audiences will like it.

 

You seem to have used new weapons. Tell us about them.

We did a lot of design work for Kalki. Concept artists and production designers did a lot of brainstorming. The technology, costumes, tropes, weapons, and everything related to Kalki is Indianized. These things will look amazing on the big screens.

 

Apart from Prabhas, the film also has Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Deepika Padukone. Could you tell us about their roles?

I can’t reveal much about their characters. But fans of Amitabh Bachchan Garu, Kamal Haasan Garu, and Deepika Garu will have a cracker of time. They haven’t played such roles in their careers till now.

 

Why is the movie named Kalki 2898 AD?

There is a logic for it. I will be revealing it when the movie nears its release.

 

Why did you opt for Santosh Narayanan as the music director?

Only a few music directors can give that world-class feeling with Indian roots, and one of them is Santosh Narayanan. Hence, we roped him in.

 

What kind of makeover did Prabhas Garu go through?

You will see the future Prabhas in Kalki 2898 AD (chuckles).

 

Are you planning a Nagi Cinematic Universe?

No (chuckles).

 

How was it working with Prabhas, Kamal Haasan Garu and Amitabh Bachchan Garu?

They are all wonderful human beings. Despite being great actors, they will be humble. They have an immense passion for cinema. That’s the common trait among them.

 

When will the film release?

We will announce the release date very soon.

 

When can we expect the Kalki trailer?

It might come after 93 days (chuckles).
