Sardar is a spy-thriller that has Karthi in the lead role. The film is scheduled for a release on October 21st and has Raashi Khanna and Rajisha Vijayan as the female leads. S Lakshman Kumar produced the film under the Prince Pictures banner, and P.S Mithran directed it. We met with the director ahead of the release for a brief interview. Here is the transcript.
How did the project start?
When I was busy with the dubbing works of my first film Abhimanyudu, I got the idea of Sardar. I discussed this with one of my writers and developed the script. I narrated the plot to the producer Lakshman, who suggested I tell it to Karthi. He liked the story instantly, and we went ahead with the project.
It looks like Karthi plays a double role in the film. Tell us more about it?
Karthi’s role will be very surprising in Sardar. Karthi will play the father and son in Sardar, whose roles are completely in contrast. The spy character likes to be anonymous, while the Police character wants to have publicity for every small thing.
How was the working experience with Karthi?
Karthi is the best of all the actors I worked with. He has a lot of dedication to his role. Karthi also shares many valuable ideas which help the film. His latest film, PS:1, was a blasting hit, and I hope the same to repeat with Sardar.
How are you feeling, as there are a lot of releases this Diwali?
When I made a film with Siva Karthikeyan in the past, it clashed with Karthi’s film. Now I made a movie with Karthi, which is clashing with Siva Karthikeyan’s movie, which looks a bit strange. Both films are completely different in their way, and I expect all the Diwali releases to be successful.
How do you feel as Nagarjuna’s Annapurna Studios releases the film in Telugu?
Annapurna Studios is my favorite production house, and the love shown by them is superb. Karthi and Nagarjuna share a good bonding and made a fantastic film like Oopiri. It is great that Annapurna Studios is releasing the film in Telugu.
About your future projects?
I have thought about making a film with Akhil for a long time. However, my present focus is entirely on the release of Sardar.
