Sundeep Kishan will next feature in his first PAN Indian film Micheal, which is up for a grand release on 3rd February. Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi plays a very important role in this gangster drama. Divyansha Kaushik is the leading lady, and Ranjit Jeykodi directs the movie. Produced by Sree Venkateswara Cinemas LLP and Karan C Productions LLP, the movie has Sam CS as music director. Ahead of the interview, we interacted with the director, and here is the transcript.

How did Micheal’s journey start?

After watching my second film, Sundeep Kishan called me. He liked my work very much. We became good friends and shared many things during the lockdown. During the second lockdown, he said that we both should work together. He wanted to do an action flick, and at the same time, I came up with an action script. That’s how Micheal began.

Is Micheal a gangster story?

We can’t say Micheal falls under one genre. We can call it a romantic, action, gangster drama, and period film. The movie will have three timelines during the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Most part of the film will happen during the 90s. Micheal’s story will be pretty exciting. The movie is a beautiful love story against the gangster backdrop.

How did Vijay Sethupathi come on board?

Vijay Sethupathi is a good friend of mine. I did my first film with him. I need an actor who has PAN Indian popularity for this story. He liked the character when I narrated, and it will be surprising. The audience will have a blast.

How was it working with Sundeep Kishan?

I have known Sundeep Kishan for a long time. We have a good understanding, and Sundeep knows what I require. He understands the script very well. It was a wonderful experience working with Sundeep Kishan.

The dark visuals look very rich. Did you take any special care?

The story demands visuals. The lighting and frames will be according to the story. The camera work will be different in my films. Kiran Kaushik worked on Micheal, and one won’t believe this is his first film. Foreign films have an impact on me, and I take special care of the visuals.

Posters look like paintings. Can you talk about it?

Yes, we have designed the posters specially. Our intention is that the audience should identify the film after looking at the posters, even if the title is not mentioned. We have succeeded in this aspect.

Can you talk about your future projects?

After Micheal, I have two projects on my hand. First, I have signed a project under Yuvasudha Arts banner. Also, I am doing a film that will be produced by Karan C.
