Director Sampath Nandi, has been in the news for directing Gabbar Singh 2. He has now donned the producers hat, and is producing Aadi’s upcoming youthful entertainer Gaalipatam. One the eve of the film’s release, we caught up with him for a brief chit chat. Let’s see what he has to say.
Q) How did this project materialize ?
After finishing Yemaindi E Vela and Raccha, I wanted to do a concept based film. I had many scripts in mind, and wanted to do something which were different from the current lot. I wrote an interesting script, and narrated it to one of the producers. They liked it immensely and that is how this film was born.
Q) How different is Gaalipatam from some of your previous flicks ?
This film is no where similar to my prior films. The concept itself will be on the lines of Bollywood films like Love Aaj Kal, Cocktail and Socha Na Tha. It is a very realistic film without any melodrama and over the top situations.
Q) All the above said films were pretty bold films. Do you think Telugu audience will accept these kind of films ?
I am 100 % sure that the audience will surely accept my concept. Even with my first film Yemaindi E Vela, audience thought it was quite bold, but after a while, it became a hugely acclaimed film.
Q) How has Aadi performed in this film ?
Aadi was an apt choice for this role, and has done his best in the film. I am sure that Gaalipatam will be one of the best films in his career.
Q) How did you decide on Erika Fernandez ?
When I was looking for a female lead for Gabbar Singh 2, I met Erika and decided to rope her for this film.
Q) The film has received an ‘A’ certificate. Does it mean the families should stay away from this film ?
Our film has a love making scene, and the censor guys asked to remove it. As the scene was very important, I wanted it in my film and said yes to the A certificate. Rest of the film is quite ok, and can be watched by everyone.
Q) You are already busy with Gabbar Singh 2. How did you manage to produce this film ?
Everything was sorted out quite clearly. I was involved only during the scripting stages, and my other team of producers managed the whole project.
Q) Finally, What are the highlights of Gaalipatam ?
Dialogues and music will be the major highlights of this bold and realistic film.
