Kriti Sanon Responds to Raksha Bandhan Ad Backlash: “When Will We Stop Telling Women What to Wear?”

Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon is facing criticism over a recent Raksha Bandhan jewellery advertisement, with much of the backlash focused on her outfit. The ad shows Kriti celebrating the festival and tying a rakhi to her dog, prompting debate over its portrayal of the occasion.

The controversy intensified after Kangana Ranaut criticised Kriti’s look and questioned the choice of outfit for a festival like Raksha Bandhan. Kriti has now responded through an Instagram post, saying that the essence of festivals lies in the emotions and meaning attached to traditions, rather than the clothes one wears.

Kriti also explained that she and her sister tie rakhi to each other because they believe they can protect each other just as a brother would. She added that the same affection extends to their dogs, as they are part of the family.

Addressing the criticism over her outfit, Kriti questioned when women would stop being judged for what they wear. She argued that ethnic fashion has evolved, while a woman’s connection to her culture is still often judged through her clothing. She concluded with the message: “Culture & Traditions are in her heart, not in her neckline!”

The debate continues on social media, with users divided over Kriti’s statement, the advertisement’s creative choices and its portrayal of Raksha Bandhan. It remains to be seen how the debate unfolds following Kriti’s response.
