In a fresh jolt to the Malayalam film industry, noted directors Khalid Rahman and Ashraf Hamza, along with their friend Shalif Mohammed, were detained by the Kochi Excise Department during a late-night raid for possession of hybrid ganja.

The operation took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at a flat near the Gosree Bridge in Kochi. During the raid, authorities seized 1.6 grams of hybrid ganja from the spot. The trio was taken into custody and later released on station bail.

The flat reportedly belongs to noted cinematographer Sameer Thahir. With the investigation underway, all eyes are now on how the case will progress.

Khalid Rahman recently directed Alappuzha Gymkhana, which hit Telugu screens just a few days ago. Ashraf Hamza, on the other hand, is celebrated for directing Thamaasha and is also credited as the writer of Thallumaala, one of Khalid’s major hits.
