Legendary director Singeetham Srinivasa Rao garu, who gave us many timeless classics and made an immense contribution to Indian cinema, left us last night at the age of 95.
His passion for cinema never stopped with age. He last made Sing Geetham, released this June, marking his 61st film. Yet, even after 61 films, his desire to make cinema remained untouched. He wanted to make one more, his 62nd. That relentless passion has now been revealed by his disciple Nag Ashwin, director of Mahanati and Kalki 2898 AD.
Singeetham garu had mentioned the title of his next film in their WhatsApp group chat: “A Fruit Cuts the Knife.” Just the title is enough to grab your attention and make you wonder what kind of world this man was still imagining.
Unfortunately, he has left his mortal body behind. But the idea remains. And now, it remains to be seen whether Nag Ashwin, or someone else, will take it forward and turn it into a final tribute to a legend who spent his life breathing cinema into existence.
