Since last night, Telugu social media has been abuzz non-stop with several videos and memes of a director’s roundtable that went terribly wrong. The roundtable in question featured noted Tollywood directors Mohanakrishna Indraganti, Shiva Nirvana, Nandini Reddy, Vivek Athreya and Venkatesh Maha and it was moderated by a senior journalist.
In the video, Venkatesh Maha, who made the critically acclaimed C/o Kancharapalem, took potshots at commercial potboilers. Venkatesh Maha particularly took a sly dig at the KGF franchise and termed it a sh*t movie and Rocky Bhai character “Neech..Kaminey and Kuttey.” Some of the directors who were present in the roundtable laughed uncontrollably in approval of Venkatesh Maha’s satirical comments.
Needless to say, mass movie loving audiences were outrightly offended by this blatant attack on their choice of enjoying popcorn movies. They started tagging Venkatesh Maha and the directors who sided with his comments and blasted them.
And Nandini Reddy, who felt the heat, took to Twitter and apologized for offending the audiences. She also acknowledged the importance of commercial entertainers. “Every commercial film which has become a success is bec the audience hs loved something in tht effort . The conversation was nvr meant 2deride anyones work but rathr hv a positive debate on what cn diversify the narrative of “commercial cinema”. Apologies fr any offence caused,” (sic) she tweeted. Nandini’s Anni Manchi Sakunamule is gearing up for its theatrical release soon.
