Rental vs percentage sharing row: Bunny Vas asks industry to focus on root cause first

Currently, there is a disagreement between exhibitors in Telangana and top producers regarding revenue-sharing terms. While exhibitors want a percentage-sharing model, producers are against it. Amid this, Bunny Vas shared his thoughts on why theatrical revenues have drastically fallen.

He opined that the massive collections seen for big-budget entertainers are due to increased ticket prices and not footfalls. According to him, more burden is being placed on the category of audiences who are still coming to theatres. He added that the situation is even worse for small-budget films.

Bunny Vas feels that both exhibitors and producers are incurring losses. The producer listed four major reasons for the decline in theatre-going audiences. Most importantly, heroes taking more time between films is making audiences lose interest in the industry, says Bunny Vas. He believes heroes play a key role in bringing audiences to theatres.

Bunny Vas is also of the opinion that shorter OTT windows, content not being worth high ticket prices, and exorbitant food and refreshment rates in multiplexes are among the other reasons behind the industry’s slump. He stated that Tollywood should first focus on the existing issues rather than fighting over revenues that are already alarmingly low.
