The new ticket rate G.O. issued by the Revanth Reddy government has sent the industry and moviegoers into panic mode. Single screens with Dolby 7.1 and 2K projection facilities are allowed to charge up to Rs. 300 as the rate of admission. The decision instantly triggered debates on social media, as it could make moviegoing more expensive.
The Telangana State Film Chamber of Commerce has now reacted by writing to the government and requesting it to reconsider the decision. The TFCC urged the government to consult the apex film chambers and all major stakeholders in the industry before taking any consequential decision on the matter.
The chamber particularly expressed concern over the revised rates under the “Special Theatre” category and asked the government to convene a stakeholder consultation at the earliest to protect the sustainability of single screens.
