Rajamouli is currently working on his most ambitious project, Varanasi, headlined by Superstar Mahesh Babu. He recently participated in the Annecy Animation Festival’s work-in-progress panel to promote Baahubali: The Eternal War. Following the event, Rajamouli spoke to Variety and revealed crucial details about Varanasi.
“What I can say is we have completed a major portion of the shoot. All the important, big spectacle action sequences are done. We are [now] into doing the smaller, interconnecting scenes, so hopefully, by September, maybe a little bit into October, we should be finishing shooting,” said Rajamouli.
The tentpole film is slated to hit the big screens on April 7, 2027. Varanasi also features Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran in pivotal roles. KL Narayana of Durga Arts is bankrolling the project, while MM Keeravani is composing the music.
