Actor Thrigun has now come up with a film titled Lineman. Raghu Sastry directed this village drama, and let’s see how it is.
Story:
Set in Satthipalli village of Khammam district, the film revolves around a strange decision taken by Lineman Natraj, a.k.a Nattu (Thrigun). Devudamma (Jayashree) is a revered midwife in Satthipalli who assisted women of multiple generations in giving birth to their babies. Devudamma is about to complete 100 years, and on this special occasion, the entire village plans a grand birthday party. But Nattu switches off the electricity grid to save four lives. Also he informs everyone that the electricity supply will be halted for a few more days. Why did Nattu make such a decision is what Lineman is about?
Plus Points:
Thrigun is a good performer naturally, and he essayed Nattu’s role quite effortlessly on the screen. His dialogue delivery, body language, and the way he emoted in the second half are pretty good. Senior actress Jayashree, who played the midwife role, has done a splendid job.
Minus Points:
The movie emphasizes that one does not have the right to take the life of other living creatures, but at the same time, the protagonist causes extreme trouble to the villagers by cutting the electricity supply. The lives of many are put at stake to save four birds, which contradicts the very purpose the film tries to achieve. From newborn babies to old people, many live in the village, and the movie doesn’t explain how causing discomfort to them is a good deed.
The solution shown in Lineman isn’t practically possible. At the end, a few paper clips are shown which say that such incidents happened in a couple of villages. Well, this can’t be attributed to the majority of the population. The film also says that extreme addiction to mobile phones affects human relations. Well, not just mobile phones but there are many other things for which we rely on electricity, and it isn’t possible to live without it, especially in this day and age.
Mobile phones are not just for entertainment, but they have become a part and parcel of our lives in many ways. Had the movie stressed social media addiction, it would have been sensible. Due to these factors, the message comes across as preachy. The execution is quite bad for the most part, and the movie isn’t good technically.
Nothing happens in the first half, and the comedy here is extremely irritating. Songs come for no reason, and the treatment in many sequences is almost like a daily soap. The slow pacing will test the patience levels big time. There are separate comedy tracks and subplots. They offer no value and add to the woes.
Technical Aspects:
The film scores low on the technical aspects. The music, editing, cinematography, and production values are below par. The film’s idea and presentation are not at all convincing. Apart from Thrigun and a couple of characters, there is no lip-sync for other actors. The dialogues are poorly written.
Verdict:
On the whole, Lineman revolves around a strange idea that isn’t practically possible, and the narrative is highly boring. The film also has many sequences that are quite in contrast to the very concept it deals with. Thrigun and senior actress Jayashree are the only good things to rave about this village drama. Hence, it is advised to choose other entertainment options this weekend.
