Transfer Trimurthulu marks veteran actor Vadde Naveen’s comeback to the silver screen after a decade long hiatus. The cop action drama also starring Rashi Singh hit the big screens today. Let’s see how the movie is.
Story:
As the title suggests, Transfer Trimurthulu is about a constable (Vadde Naveen) who is often rewarded with transfers as he becomes a thorn in everyone’s side due to his truthful nature and strong work ethic. His honesty even leads to the collapse of a state government as he tries to expose a crime committed by one of the top leaders in the ruling party. What is that crime? Why does Trimurthulu take it so seriously? What challenges do he and his family face in this regard? This is what the movie is about.
Plus Points:
Generally, a protagonist trying to save someone who is genuinely in danger comes across as a routine scenario. But what if he attempts to save someone who is only pretending to be in danger? This particular moment is neatly executed and stands out as the main highlight of the first half.
The film starts off well with the introduction of Trimurthulu’s character and the problems that stem from his approach to work. Also, the director tried to present the hero as an underdog, and it actually made sense. There are heroic moments, but they don’t come across as over-the-top and blend well with the hero’s characterization.
Vadde Naveen looked comfortable in most scenes, and his body language suits the role quite well. There are some fun moments, and the actor performs well in those portions. Shilpa Tulaskar is fine as the Chief Minister.
Minus Points:
The core point chosen doesn’t have enough meat, and that’s the key shortcoming of Transfer Trimurthulu. The hero trying to expose a crime and deliver justice to the victim is a theme that has already been explored in many films, and there aren’t any out-of-the-box ideas to compensate for the familiar premise. The screenplay isn’t written well either to hold the attention throughout. There are decent moments, but they are few and far between.
The court proceedings towards the end remain watchable thanks to the presence of Vadlamani Srinivas and Sivannarayana, but the twist dilutes the impact altogether. It is highly reminiscent of a decade-old star hero film which also dealt with a similar theme.
An original idea with better writing for the climax could have worked much better. Not just this, but there is one more such crucial sequence where the protagonist saves his family skillfully, but again that isn’t unique. Rashi Singh’s character has limited scope.
The emotional core of the film isn’t as strong as intended. The family bond and the hero’s dynamic with his father feel mechanical. Upcoming filmmakers should avoid songs altogether when they don’t contribute to the narrative much. In particular, the special song involving a crucial eyewitness in a very important case, whose testimony could even bring down a government, didn’t seem logical.
Technical Aspects:
Songs by Kalyan Nayak are just okay, while the background score is impactful in some key moments. Karthik Sujatha Saikumar’s cinematography is good. The political meeting scene and the fight following it are captured well. The editing is below-par, while the production values are neat.
Debutant Kamal Teja could have done a better job. While the team promised unique content and thrilling elements, the film doesn’t feature anything groundbreaking and that’s the major complaint. Few moments are handled well, but the rest of the portions aren’t satisfactory.
Verdict:
On the whole, Transfer Trimurthulu is a familiar action drama with some decent moments here and there. Vadde Naveen’s honest performance and his underdog characterization are the main highlights. The lack of uniqueness in the plot and the underwhelming screenplay, coupled with seen-before ideas, bring the movie down.
