The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday registered a corruption case against Sameer Wankhede, the anti-narcotics officer who arrested Hindi film superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan in the sensational alleged drugs-on-cruise case in 2021. Sameer Wankhede and others had allegedly demanded Rs 25 crore bribe for not framing Aryan Khan in the alleged drug bust, the CBI sleuths revealed.

The CBI has filed the case after conducting searches at 29 properties belonging to Sameer Wankhede and others across Mumbai, Delhi, Ranchi and Kanpur. Sameer was the Mumbai zonal chief of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) when he and his team had busted a rave party on a luxurious cruise ship off Mumbai’s coast in 2021.

Soon after his arrest, Aryan Khan had to spend nearly 4 weeks in jail. However, the anti-drugs agency had cleared Aryan of all charges in May 2022 due to “lack of sufficient evidence”. Prior to this, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up by the NCB claimed that the probe led by Sameer Wankhede had too many lapses. This led to Sameer’s transfer to the Directorate General of Taxpayer Services in Chennai in May, 2022.
