After a long wait of 12 years, the Indian Cricket Team has sealed a spot in the ICC ODI World Cup finals. Way back in 2011, the Indian team succeeded in the Semi-Finals against arch-rivals Pakistan and went on to win the World Cup. Now, in 2023, our “Men in Blue” won against the Black Caps (New Zealand) in the Semi-Finals held at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. Rohit went all out with his thunderous hitting and scored a quick 47. Though Rohit was dismissed, the joy didn’t last so long for New Zealand as King Kohli and Shreyas Iyer dominated New Zealand bowlers with their tremendous batting display. Kohli went on to score his 50th ODI century (the most by any batsman), while Shreyas Iyer scored a brilliant century. The heroics of Kohli and Iyer helped India post a remarkable total of 397 for a loss of 4 wickets.

New Zealand lost their openers quickly, but Kane Willaimson and Daryl Mitchell fought hard to get their team over the line. But Indian pacer Mohammed Shami didn’t let that happen. He achieved 7 wickets and took the important wickets of Willaimson, Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra, and Conway. Bumrah got the better of Phillips.

India won the Semi-Finals by 70 runs. India will be playing the Finals against the winner of Semi-Finals 2 (Australia vs South Africa). The Finals will be held in Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Sunday. Let’s hope our team will win their third World Cup under the captaincy of Hit Man.
