Yash’s Toxic, released on August 26, 2026, has failed to capitalise on the extended weekend, with the Geetu Mohandas directorial struggling to attract audiences even on Sunday. Its hourly BookMyShow sales remained in the single digits, a worrying trend for a film that had the advantage of a holiday period.
The contrast with its competitors is telling. Ravi Teja’s Irumudi, released a few days earlier, is recording around 15K BookMyShow sales, while the Malayalam film Bethlehem Kudumba Unit (BKU) is at approximately 10K sales per hour. Both are regional releases, yet they are generating significantly stronger audience interest.
The trend challenges the assumption that a film’s pan-Indian scale alone can drive theatrical success. Audience demand ultimately comes down to the content and word-of-mouth surrounding a film, and the current numbers suggest that Toxic has struggled to establish either.
With more releases entering the market, the road ahead looks even tougher for Toxic. Its failure to gain momentum over the extended weekend has put the film in an increasingly difficult position at the box office.
